Homes & Communities Agency

English Partnerships became part of the Homes and Communities Agency on 1 December 2008. This website is no longer being updated but is available for historical reference.

Tindale Crescent, Co Durham

Background

The former Tindale Crescent Hospital in Bishop Auckland site comprises a cleared site, with the exception of a retained gatehouse, extending to 1.23 ha (3.04 acres), all set in a predominantly residential location, off Greenfields Road in Tindale Crescent, between Bishop Auckland and St Helens Auckland.

The surrounding area has seen significant investment in recent years with successful developments having been completed by developers including Taylor Wimpey, Bryant Homes and Broseley Homes in St Helens Auckland and Persimmon Homes in Bishop Auckland. Further schemes are planned by Persimmon Homes and Dunelm Castle Homes.

Current status

English Partnerships is currently marketing the Tindale Crescent Hospital site that benefits from outline planning consent, granted on 19 October 2004 (ref: 3/2003/0626), permitting residential development.

The consent is subject to a section 299a Agreement requiring a payment of £33,320 for the provision of off site play and recreational facilities.

In March 2008 an agreement was reached with Places for People to build 51 houses on site, 5 of which will be affordable.

Next steps

  • Exchange of conditional contracts in Spring 2008
  • Building on site will commence in 2009
