Heart of Slough

English Partnerships announced a funding package of £17.52m for the Heart of Slough regeneration scheme in February 2006.  Initiated by Slough Borough Council, the project aims to regenerate 11.75 ha of land in the town centre mainly owned by the Borough Council and Thames Valley University.

The area encompasses Brunel Bus Station, the existing library, the church square and parts of the University itself.

English Partnerships’ funding will enable Slough Borough Council to conclude the development agreement with its partner Development Securities.

The Heart of Slough scheme will help to create an attractive gateway to the town as well as improving its infrastructure and environment.

Slough Borough Council and English Partnerships are working with Development Securities to deliver the scheme, which will lead to a total investment of over £400m.

A period of public consultation has commenced and will continue throughout the process of finalising plans.  A formal outline planning application has been submitted to Slough Borough Council and work is scheduled to commence late in early 2009.

The proposals include provisions for:

  • 1,500 new homes
  • 34,000 sq m net of new office space
  • A new bus station
  • New shops, leisure and recreation facilities
  • A new landmark building for library and adult learning facilities
  • A new hotel
  • A new public square surrounding the church
  • Direct access to the High Street
