Erith Western Gateway
Background
English Partnerships is working with Bexley Council and a number of other public bodies to promote a comprehensive approach to the regeneration of the Erith Western Gateway - a collection of sites within the heart of Erith town centre and adjacent to the river Thames. The Council is committed to achieving design excellence and, with the support of English Partnerships, aims to set new standards for redevelopment in the area.
English Partnerships has facilitated the delivery of the project through providing advice to Bexley Regeneration Unit; partially funding the masterplanning and marketing work in the initial stages and through the demolition of the Riverside Baths, a derelict and dangerous structure at the heart of the project area.
Current Status
Bexley Council and English Partnerships selected Crest Nicholson with Orbit Housing Association as the preferred development partner for the Erith Western Gateway in July 2008. Crest Nicholson has a proven track record for designing and managing large scale developments in an urban environment. Orbit South Housing is one of the largest housing associations in the south of England and will bring a wealth of experience in the affordable housing sector, with strong local connections.
The selected developers are developing detailed scheme proposals to deliver a mix of housing types across a range of tenures, employment space, retail and leisure uses. It is expected that further consultation work will take place in 2009.
